LRKD Industries Rigging Products: Warnings, Definitions, and Guidelines
Definitions
Working Load Limit (WLL):
The Working Load Limit (WLL), also known as the Safe Working Load (SWL), is the maximum load that should ever be applied to a rigging product under any condition. This limit is calculated assuming the load is applied uniformly in a straight-line pull.
Breaking Strength:
The Breaking Strength represents the average force at which a product is found to fail under controlled laboratory conditions with a constantly increasing load applied in a straight-line pull. It is not intended for design or rating purposes. Always use the Working Load Limit for safety-critical calculations.
Proof Load:
The Proof Load is the load a product is subjected to during quality control tests to identify defects or deformations in the material. This load is typically twice the Working Load Limit and serves as a verification test, not an operational limit.
Guidelines and Cautions
Matching Components:
All components, including chains, cables, wire ropes, and their attachments, must be made of appropriate materials, types, and strengths to ensure safety. The Working Load Limit of attachments must equal or exceed the limits of the connected components.
Inspection Warning:
No rigging product can operate indefinitely at its rated capacity. Regular inspections by trained or qualified personnel are essential. Look for visible signs of damage, such as:
- Distortion or elongation
- Corrosion
- Cracks or nicks
- Abrasion or deformation
Damaged or worn products must be removed from service immediately to prevent failures.
Shock Loads:
Avoid shock loads, which occur when loads experience rapid changes in movement, such as jerking, swinging, or sudden impacts. These dynamic forces can exceed static Working Load Limits and lead to failure.
Marking Requirements:
All imported rigging products sold by LRKD Industries comply with U.S. Customs laws and are marked with their country of origin. Resellers are responsible for passing this information to end users.
Warnings
- Never exceed the Working Load Limit.
- Avoid shock loads and side loads.
- Stay clear of raised loads.
- Inspect rigging products regularly for safety and performance.
- Replace damaged components immediately.
These guidelines are critical to ensure the safe and effective use of LRKD Industries’ rigging products. Proper training and adherence to these principles will help minimize risks and extend the life of your equipment.
